Take a look at Aidanova which is currently under construction in Germany. It will become the world’s largest passenger cruise ship and the biggest ever ordered by parent company Carnival.
We’ve all heard of the Oasis-class vessels for Royal Caribbean, starting with Oasis of the Seas which arrived in 2009. Well, rival cruise company Carnival has ordered a new class of ship for several of its cruise brands. The first ship in this new generation will be Aidanova for German-based Aida Cruises. The cruise line has recently been showing off the future ship while being floated out and under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The shipyard floated out a huge aft part of the vessel to make way for another section which was put together at the Rostock shipyard. The large module of Aidanova is two blocks together and is 120 meters long, 24 meters wide and spans 19 decks.
By the end of February 2018, the second large part of the ship which includes the engine area will also be completed. Just take a look at the stunning time-lapse of showing the large aft part being taken out of the construction hall and replaced with the next part.

Aidanova will be 180,000 gross tons once complete in December 2018. It won’t be the largest cruise ship in the world but will be the largest passenger ship carrying a total of 6,600 guests in 2,600 cabins. The vessel which was ordered by Carnival Corporation will be the first fully powered Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) ship and bring new innovations to the industry. We can expect the cruise line to release lots of specific details through 2018. The first block was laid at Meyer Werft in September so it is coming along pretty fast.
The ships maiden voyage will depart Hamburg, Germany on December 2, 2018. In total there are six of these vessels on order for different cruise brands including Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises and Aida Cruises. The second identical ship for Aida Cruises will arrive in Spring 2021.
