MSC Cruises will christen its largest cruise ship to date, MSC Grandiosa. The ceremony is taking place in Hamburg, Germany.

The new vessel which is the largest ever constructed for the cruise line so far is having her naming ceremony in the city of Hamburg, Germany today. In fact, it’s the final day of celebrations as MSC Gradiosa first arrived in the city on November 6 which is when the festivities first kicked off.

On November 9 is the official christening ceremony which is being held onboard and with godmother Sophie Loren. The ceremony will take place in locations across the ship and hosted by actress and TV presenter Michelle Hunziker along with co-host Jochen Schropp.
The moment of the evening will be when the new MSC flagship passes the Elbphilharmonie just as a special light show illuminates the building and ship.
The vessel will take center stage on the River Elbe as the godmother official names her 15th MSC cruise ship. Following the naming will be a spectacular fireworks display before returning to her dock.

There will also be a four-course meal created by renowned 3 Michelin starred German chef Harald Wohlfahrt at the Gala Dinner.

MSC Grandiosa will begin regular 7-night cruises in the Western Mediterranean starting November 23 with six embarkation ports calling Genoa, Civitavecchia, Italy; Palermo, Sicily; Valetta, Malta; Barcelona, Spain; and Marseille, France.
